Pederson Wins Muddy Duathalon
April 16, 2007 -- All the other races in the area where cancelled due to wet conditions but not the Lunatic Fringe Duathalon at Smithville Lake. Russ Pederson overcame the very muddy conditions and won the 50+ men by about 15 minutes.
Pederson said he left the race in a rather disgusted mood after having a major mechanical on the bike section not knowing he had won. He went home and checked the results to find out he won.
"The first run section wasn't bad but the 10 mile bike was awful. I was running a single speed to avoid gear problems but about halfway through the Singulator wrapped itself around the sprocket. I wound up running with my bike for 5 miles. Even running with it I had to stop several times and dig the mud out of the frame. It was crazy. I guess the other guys had worse problems than I did".
